What is vertigo and what causes it?
Vertigo is not a disease, but a severe symptom that creates a "sense of spinning or movement that isn't actually there." The most common cause is BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo), where balance crystals (otoliths) in the inner ear detach and migrate into the semicircular canals that maintain balance. These microscopic crystals cause the fluid inside the canals to ripple every time you move your head, sending false signals to your brain that you are "spinning rapidly." At Dr. Nurten Küçük, my approach to vertigo is highly analytical. First, using special tests and glasses (Frenzel), I pinpoint with millimeter precision which ear and which canal the crystal has dislodged. Then, instead of condemning the patient to months of medication, I reposition the crystals within minutes using painless 'Repositioning Maneuvers (Epley, etc.)' that I apply to that specific canal. Even if the patient enters the clinic with support or in a wheelchair, if the diagnosis is correct, they can often leave walking and on their own, having awakened from that nightmare.
Nystagmus (Eye) Analysis

Absolutely not. No needles, incisions, or instruments are used. It's simply a process where your head and torso are turned in specific directions by your doctor. Your head may momentarily turn during the maneuver; this is normal and is the strongest evidence that the crystals are moving to the correct location within the canal.
Should I continue taking vertigo medication (dizziness pills)?
If your problem is dislodged inner ear crystals, taking anti-dizziness medication for months won't cure you; on the contrary, it will prolong the feeling of dizziness and lightheadedness by delaying the brain's adaptation process to the situation. Once the crystals are repositioned through a maneuver, you usually won't need any anti-dizziness medication anymore.
