Complete the Golden Ratio on Your Face: Chin Tip Aesthetics (Mentoplasty)
Achieve perfect harmony between your chin, the most important complement to your facial profile, and your overall features. By bringing a recessed, small, or asymmetrical chin to the ideal projection (forward), you'll achieve a flawless, balanced, and strong profile from both the front and the side.
What is Chin Tip Aesthetics and Why is it Crucial for the Face?
Mentoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the size and form of the chin to achieve the golden ratio of the face. Perfect facial beauty is measured by the angle between the nose, lips, and chin. Often, when rhinoplasty (nose surgery) is planned, it is realized that the main reason for a large nose is actually a receding chin (this is called profiloplasty). Depending on the need, the chin can be brought forward using the patient's own bone, reshaped, or volumized using biocompatible implants (prostheses). The result is a balanced, characterful, and aesthetically pleasing facial contour.
- Those whose chin is very recessed (indistinct) compared to their nose and lips when viewed from the side.
- Those whose chin is longer than normal, asymmetrical, pointed, or protruding forward
- Those whose neck and chin area appear more saggy than they actually are due to a small chin.
- Those who want to achieve a perfect "golden ratio" (profiloplasty) in their face along with rhinoplasty.
- Those who have facial asymmetry and aim to strengthen their jawline and give their face a more characteristic expression.
A proper profile is achieved not only through the nose but also through the proportion of the chin.
In many patients who come to my clinic complaining of a "too big nose," I observe, after analysis, that the real problem is a receding chin. As Dr. Nurten Küçük, I take a holistic approach to facial aesthetics. Simply reducing the size of the nose doesn't balance the face; when we also move the chin to its ideal angle, the face instantly brightens, creating a much more natural expression. In chin aesthetics, we create lifelong, natural-feeling results that feel like your own bone, using millimeter-sized incisions made inside the mouth, leaving no visible external scars.
Scarless Surgical Procedure
The procedure is usually performed through a small incision made inside the mouth (the inside of the lower lip) or in the natural crease under the chin. It is often performed under general anesthesia and takes 1-1.5 hours. There will be no visible surgical scars on your face.
First Week and Bands
Special tapes are placed on the jaw to stabilize the tissue and reduce swelling after surgery. To protect the stitches inside your mouth, you will be asked to eat soft, liquid foods that do not require chewing for the first few days.
Lasting and Strong Profile
The stitches inside the mouth dissolve on their own and do not need to be removed. The bandages are removed in 4-5 days. Most of the swelling will subside within 2-3 weeks, and that golden ratio, that strong jawline, will be permanently revealed on your face.
Frequently Asked Questions
In chin augmentation surgery, are implants (prostheses) used, or is bone cut?
Both methods can be applied depending on the patient's anatomical needs. If the chin is very recessed, permanent, fully biocompatible implants (Medpor, silicone, etc.) are usually placed. Sometimes, especially in cases of asymmetry, reduction, or advancement, reshaping the jawbone (genioplasty) is performed.
From the outside, would it be obvious that I've had cosmetic surgery or implants done on my chin?
No, since we usually make the surgical incision from inside the mouth, there will be no scarring on your face. Because the implants are placed deep beneath the jawbone, their outlines are not visible from the outside; when you touch them or look at them from the outside, they look and feel completely natural, as if they were your own bone.
Will chin surgery prevent me from speaking or eating?
Your speech will not be impaired. It is only recommended that you consume liquids and soft foods (soup, puree, etc.) for the first 3-4 days to protect the stitches inside your mouth and prevent increased swelling. After a short adjustment period of a few days, you will return to your completely normal eating and drinking habits.
Is it necessary to have this done at the same time as rhinoplasty?
While not mandatory, these surgeries are frequently combined to balance the facial profile (profiloplasty) and complement each other perfectly. Performing both surgeries in the same session allows for a smoother recovery and achieves a complete "golden ratio." Of course, chin aesthetics alone can also be safely performed.
