A Second Chance, A Perfect Start: Revision Rhinoplasty

If you were not satisfied with the aesthetic or functional results of your previous rhinoplasty, you are not alone. With revision (secondary) rhinoplasty, which requires expertise and advanced surgical experience, we leave your past negative experiences behind and reconstruct that ideal nose structure that is harmonious with your face, allows for proper breathing, and looks natural.

Why is Revision Rhinoplasty Needed?

Revision rhinoplasty is corrective surgery performed on patients who have undergone one or more previous nose surgeries but have not achieved the desired results. Problems such as excessive cartilage removal in the first surgery, nasal bridge collapse (saddle nose), asymmetry, or persistent shortness of breath are corrected with this surgery. Due to internal adhesions (scar tissue) and cartilage deficiencies, it requires a much more detailed analysis, meticulous workmanship, and surgical skill compared to the initial surgery.

We are rebuilding lost trust and breath.

A common characteristic of my patients who apply for revision surgery is their disappointment and anxiety about undergoing another operation. Honesty and realistic expectations are crucial in this process. As Dr. Nurten Küçük, my priority in revision surgery is to reconstruct the damaged supporting structures of the nose (using your own rib or ear cartilage if necessary), much like an architect. Our goal is not just to correct the shape, but to ensure that the nose remains healthy and stable on your face for a lifetime.

Detailed Surgical Procedure

Revision surgeries take longer than initial surgeries (average 3-4 hours). They involve extra procedures such as releasing internal tissue adhesions and, if necessary, harvesting cartilage from another part of the body (ear/ribs). They are performed under general anesthesia.

The First Week

A splint will be placed on your nose, just like in your first surgery. Bruising and swelling may occur depending on the technique used, but with our modern approaches, we ensure you experience this process as mildly as possible. Your splints will be removed on the 7th day.

Recovery and Lasting Results

In revision surgeries, because the tissues have been previously treated, the swelling subsides more slowly and requires more patience compared to the initial surgery. Depending on skin thickness, it may take 1 to 2 years for the nose to take its final form.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should I wait after the initial surgery before considering revision surgery?

To allow for complete wound healing, tissue softening, and complete reduction of swelling, we expect at least six months, and ideally one year, to pass since your initial surgery.

It is not necessary for every patient. If your own cartilage pool (septum) inside your nose was not completely depleted in your first surgery, rib cartilage may not be needed. However, if there is no cartilage left inside to provide support, your own rib cartilage or ear cartilage, which are the healthiest and non-absorbable tissues, can be used.

Technically, it is more difficult due to adhesions and anatomical changes created by the previous surgery. However, in the hands of a surgeon who is familiar with nasal anatomy and experienced in revision cases, the risks are minimized and extremely successful, gratifying results are achieved.

Yes, it is possible. However, each new surgical intervention puts some strain on skin quality and tissue nutrition. Therefore, after a detailed examination and radiological imaging, the decision is made based on the ratio of benefits the surgery will bring you.
