The Perfect Harmony of Breathing and Aesthetics: Septorhinoplasty
Solve nasal congestion and deformities in the same session, with a single surgical intervention. With septorhinoplasty, achieve both comfortable, healthy breathing and that natural, aesthetic look that perfectly complements your facial features. Get rid of two separate problems with a single recovery process.
What is Septorhinoplasty and Why Should It Be Preferred?
Septorhinoplasty is a combined surgical procedure that corrects cartilage and bone deformities (septum deviation) inside the nose, opening the airway, and simultaneously redesigning the external shape of the nose aesthetically. Patients who come to our clinic often have concerns about only the external or only the internal structure of their nose. However, as ENT and Facial Surgery specialists, we consider the nose as a whole, never disregarding functionality (breathing) when designing the aesthetics.
- People who sleep with their mouths open at night, snore, and wake up tired in the mornings.
- Those who experience nasal congestion (deviation) along with complaints of a hump, asymmetry, or drooping.
- Those whose noses are both deviated and whose airways are blocked as a result of trauma or an accident.
- Those seeking a permanent solution with a single anesthesia instead of two separate surgeries (one for breathing and one for aesthetics)
- "Everyone who says, "I want to look good/handsome from the outside while also breathing healthily."
A nose that doesn't breathe, no matter how beautiful it looks, is a failure.
At Dr. Nurten Küçük, my surgical philosophy is based on the principle that health and aesthetics are inseparable. In septorhinoplasty surgeries, instead of removing and discarding the crooked cartilage that obstructs the airway inside the nose, I skillfully use it (as a graft) to straighten it, support the nasal bridge or tip, and prevent it from collapsing even years later. In other words, while restoring your health, I also build your aesthetics entirely with your own natural tissues.
Combined Surgery
The procedure, performed under general anesthesia, takes approximately 2.5 to 3 hours. Since both breathing problems and aesthetic improvements are corrected in the same session, you will only stay in the hospital for one night.
Comfort with Modern Bumpers
Instead of the dreaded gauze bandages of the past, we use grooved silicone splints that allow you to breathe comfortably even after surgery. You will spend the first week much more comfortably and easily.
Lasting Function and Beauty
On the 7th day, your splints and silicone implants will be removed completely painlessly. As the swelling subsides, the aesthetic shape of your nose will settle, and thanks to the opened airways, your sleep and exercise capacity will permanently improve.
Frequently Asked Questions
If I only have septoplasty (breathing surgery), will the external shape of my nose change?
No, in standard septoplasty surgeries where only the curvature (deviation) inside the nose is corrected, the external appearance absolutely does not change. If you also want an aesthetic change and reshaping, the surgery should be called "Septorinoplasty," and this should be planned with us before the surgery.
Does undergoing both procedures (internal and external) simultaneously complicate the healing process?
On the contrary, it is much more advantageous for the patient. You experience only one surgical stress, one anesthesia, and one recovery period. Furthermore, the cartilage we remove from the inside provides us with an excellent natural building material for aesthetically shaping the outside of the nose.
Will my deviated nasal septum recur in the future?
Surgically corrected, supported, and fixed cartilage is not expected to return to its original curvature. This repair procedure is permanent.
Will my sense of smell be affected after the surgery?
No, our olfactory cells are located at the very top of the nose and are outside the surgical field. In fact, since nasal congestion is relieved and airflow is restored properly, our patients' sense of smell and taste are usually much better than before after surgery.
