What is Eyelid Surgery and Why is it Preferred?

The most common mistake in eyelid surgery is removing too much skin or fat tissue in the pursuit of a tighter appearance. This can lead to the eye not closing properly or a sunken, surprised expression. At Dr. Nurten Küçük, my approach in this area is conservative; I only remove the excess tissue that makes your face look tired, preserving the muscles that allow the eye to close properly. By concealing the incisions in the natural crease of your eyelid, I aim for a smooth and bright result where it is virtually impossible to tell that you have had surgery.
Comfort with Local Anesthesia
If only upper eyelid surgery is to be performed, the procedure takes approximately 45 minutes in a clinical setting under "local anesthesia" (numbing only the area). You can walk home immediately after the surgery. Hospitalization is not required.
Rapid Recovery and the First Week
You may experience slight swelling and bruising around the eyes for the first few days, but this will quickly subside with the cold (ice) application we recommend. Thanks to the thin bandages applied to the incision site, your eyes will never be covered.

Your stitches will be removed completely painlessly within 5-7 days, and you can return to work. Because the incision line is hidden in the natural eye crease, there will be no visible scar once healing is complete.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will I feel pain during or after the surgery?
No. You won't feel any pain because the area is completely numb during the procedure. After the surgery, our patients usually experience a painless recovery period that is very comfortable with simple painkillers.
Will eyelid surgery harm my eyes or my vision quality?
Absolutely not. Since the surgical procedure only targets the skin and superficial fat pads, it has no effect on the eyeball or visual function. On the contrary, in patients with drooping upper eyelids that narrow their field of vision, the surgery significantly improves their field of vision.
Can I put on makeup right after the stitches are removed?
A few days after your stitches are removed (usually 10 days after surgery, depending on your doctor's approval), the wound will have closed, and you can comfortably start applying light makeup and using concealer.
Are the results of eyelid surgery permanent?
The excess skin and fat removed will not reappear; in this sense, the procedure is permanent. However, gravity and the natural aging process will, of course, continue. Nevertheless, the results of the surgery allow you to maintain that fresh and youthful expression around your eyes for an average of 10-15 years.
