A Scarless Solution to Persistent Tearing: Endoscopic Tear Duct Surgery (DSR)
Are you tired of endless watery eyes, discharge, and infections? We open your blocked tear ducts completely through your nose using camera systems, without leaving any incisions on your face or around your eyes. Say goodbye to tissues; look at life again through a clear, fresh, and healthy window.
What is a blocked tear duct and how can it be cleared?
Our tears, after moisturizing and cleansing our eyes, flow through small channels into the nasal cavity. When this natural drainage system is blocked, tears cannot reach the nose and constantly overflow outwards (into the cheeks). Endoscopic DSR (Dacryocystorhinostomy) surgery is a procedure that creates a new window between the tear sac and the nasal cavity. Unlike older methods, we perform this procedure not by making an incision in the skin from the outside, but directly from inside the nose with high-resolution cameras (endoscopes). Thus, we solve the problem at its root without leaving any aesthetic defects or scars.
- Those who experience constant watering of the eyes (as if they are constantly crying) and tears spilling onto their cheeks.
- Those who wake up in the morning with excessive discharge and stickiness in their eyes
- Those who frequently experience painful swelling (sac inflammation) between the tear duct and the bridge of the nose.
- Patients whose vision quality is blurred and deteriorates due to constantly flowing tears.
- Those who do not want surgical scars on their face and are looking for "closed/scarless" surgery.
We're creating a natural pathway for tears while preserving aesthetics.
Tear duct obstruction is not just an eye problem, but also a condition closely related to nasal anatomy. At my clinic, Dr. Nurten Küçük, I always prefer to perform this surgery using the 'Endoscopic' (closed) method. This is because even a tiny incision scar on your face can compromise your aesthetic integrity. Using advanced camera systems, I reach the tear sac directly through the nose and create a permanent duct. Not only does your eye health improve, but we also achieve a flawless, scarless result on your face, as if you had undergone a cosmetic surgery.
Surgery without incisions or scars.
Since the procedure is performed entirely through cameras inside the nose, there will be absolutely no incisions, stitches, or scars around your eyes. The operation is completed under general anesthesia in a very comfortable manner.
Transparent Silicone Tube Support
To prevent the newly opened nasal septum from closing again during the healing process, a very thin and transparent silicone tube is placed in the canal. This tube is not visible from the outside and is painlessly removed in seconds at the outpatient clinic a few months later.
Fast and Painless Recovery
You will usually only stay in the hospital for one night. Unlike older open surgeries, bruising or significant swelling around the eyes is not expected, and you can return to your daily life very quickly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is this surgery performed by an ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) specialist instead of an ophthalmologist?
The tear duct opens directly into the nasal cavity, and the main area where the surgery is performed is the inner wall of the nose. ENT and Facial Surgery specialists are the physicians most knowledgeable about nasal anatomy and endoscopic (camera-assisted) nasal surgery. This anatomical mastery allows the procedure to be performed flawlessly entirely from inside the nose, without making any external skin incisions.
Will my tears dry up completely after the surgery? Will I experience dry eyes?
Absolutely not. Your tear production continues at its natural pace. This surgery does not stop production; it only allows excess tears that are overflowing due to the blockage to drain properly into the nose. So your tearing problem will end, but your eye will retain its healthy moisture.
Will the silicone tube placed in my eye obstruct my vision or cause any discomfort?
The tube is extremely thin, flexible, and transparent. It is located in the tear duct and is not visible from the outside unless you look very closely. It absolutely does not obstruct your field of vision, and it does not cause any stinging or burning in your eye. Most of our patients don't even feel the tube's presence.
What is the success rate of the surgery, and will the blockage recur in the future?
