Surgical Procedure
The procedure is usually performed under local anesthesia (numbing only the ear) in adults and under general anesthesia in children, and takes an average of 1-1.5 hours. Hospitalization is not required; you can return home the same day.
The First Week
A special bandage is applied to protect the ear after the surgery. After 1 week, this bandage is removed and replaced with a sports (tennis) bandana that you only wear at night while sleeping. Return to work and social life is very quick.
Lasting Results
The new shape given to the cartilage is permanent. Since the incisions are behind the ear, there is no scarring issue. After the slight swelling in the first few weeks subsides, the ear fully regains its natural softness and appearance.
